Nerdicus NES Halloween Review Pt 2. : Friday the 13th (review #20)

Title : FRIDAY THE 13th

Publisher : LJN

Release Date : 1989

Estimated Value (as of today's date) : $2-$5

Ki Ki Ki Ki......ma ma ma ma....you do know that's what the whispers are in the movies right? It's not chi chi chi chi cha cha cha, or kill kill kill die die die. But it really doesn't matter because those noises are as creepy as hell regardless of what it's supposed to be saying. And with that, HAPPY HALLOWEEN, everyone! In part one of our Halloween NES review series we had a blast collecting Freddy Kreuger's bones and battling his body parts as bosses in Nightmare on Elm Street. Okay, I lied. It wasn't that much fun.

Nerdicus NES HALLOWEEN Review Pt 1 : Nightmare on Elm Street (review #19)

Title : A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET

Publisher : LJN

Release Date : 1990

Estimated Value (as of today's date) : $20-$30

Well folks, tomorrow is Halloween and what better way to celebrate this "nightmare" of a holiday than by playing some horror film based games! Now of course there are two games that come to mind when thinking about Halloween and the Nintendo Entertainment System. And by now I'm sure you've guessed the first one. That's right - A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Nerdicus NES Review #18 : Adventures of Bayou Billy

Title : Adventures of Bayou Billy

Publisher : Konami

Release Date : 1989

Estimated Value (as of today's date) : $1-$3

I have a lot of memories of The Adventures of Bayou Billy, and not a single one of them is good. My NES library was never that large the first few years I owned the system, and my parents would always tend to get me games that were discounted rather than the games I wanted. So, sure enough, Bayou Billy managed to be included in my collection.

Nerdicus NES Review #17 : Adventures in the Magic Kingdom

Title : Adventures in the Magic Kingdom

Publisher : Capcom

Release Date : 1990

Estimated Value (as of today's date) : $5-$7

I was always a sucker for the console Disney games I had when I was a kid. Disney's Aladdin and Lion King come to mind of course, as these were probably some of the greatest. Even for the NES you had some classics such as Duck Tales and Chip N Dales : Rescue Rangers. But I don't think I ever heard about Adventures in the Magic Kingdom until I got my hands on it.

What a mistake.

Nerdicus NES Review #16 : Adventure Island III

Title : Adventure Island III

Publisher : Hudson Soft

Release Date : 1992

Estimated Value (as of today's date) : $18-$25

You would think by the third game I would be getting tired of rescuing Higgins' girlfriend over and over again. Seriously, this guy needs to put a tracking device on her. Better yet, he needs to move to a more populated area and stop Island Hopping. OBVIOUSLY it's a bad trend. Like hipsters moving into Brooklyn, aliens always abduct girlfriends on islands.

Nerdicus NES Review #15 : Adventure Island II

Title : Adventure Island II

Publisher : Hudson Soft

Release Date : 1991

Estimated Value (as of today's date) : $10-$20

Well, Master Higgins is at it again. Another group of islands filled with adventure (see, what I did there) and another princess to be rescued. Princess Tina has a real trust issue. She obviously was not taught as a child to yell "STRANGER, DANGER!". Then again, it's my guess that she has Stockholm Syndrome (same goes for every other princess that gets kidnapped in video games)

Nerdicus NES Review #14 : Adventure Island

Title : Adventure Island

Publisher : Hudson Soft

Release Date : 1988

Estimated Value (as of today's date) : $3-6

Oh, my dearest Hudson Soft - how many times did I end up renting this game in my meager attempts to defeat it? It is seemingly impossible to resist playing as a palm frond skirt clad, white hat donning fat man running through the treacherous jungles of ADVENTURE ISLAND.

This is one of those games that everyone seems to know. Whether you recognize it as a Wonder Boy clone from SEGA, or just as a killer platformer for the NES, the fact remains it's right up there with some of the other big names of the NES library.

Nerdicus NES Review #13 - 720

Title : 720°

Publisher : Mindscape

Release Date : 1989

Estimated Value (as of today's date) : $2-$5

Years before anyone even knew the name Tony Hawk, there was a little game known as 720°.  Considered to be the original predecessor and the originator of the acclaimed SKATE or DIE game, 720° was one of the first skateboarding games to hit the consoles. To this day, I do not understand the appeal of skateboarding games. This is totally reflective off my biased opinions toward sport games in general. So I apologize.

Nerdicus NES Review #12 - Advanced D&D : Pool of Radiance

Title : Advanced D&D : Pool of Radiance

Publisher : Strategic Simulations

Release Date : 1992

Estimated Value (as of today's date) : $10 - $20

Well, this is it folks. The last of the Advanced D&D games on the NES. Can this game finally be the hidden gem I was looking for? Or is DragonStrike going to be the one glimmer of hope that the D&D series has on the NES?

Nerdicus NES Review #11 - 10-yard fight

Title : 10-Yard Fight

Publisher : Nintendo

Release Date : 1985

Estimated Value (as of today's date) : $2-$5

LETS "SUCK"  Link : Ep1. - "10 Yard Fight"

Originally, I didn't plan on reviewing any of the NES sport games, because frankly I'm not much of a sports gamer anyway. Besides some of NHL games I played on modern consoles, I never really picked any up or enjoyed them. I'd much rather play the actual sport, than playing it on a console. That's just me.

Nerdicus NES Review #10 : Advanced D&D : Hillsfar

Title : Advanced D&D : Hillsfar

Publisher : FCI

Release Date : 1993

Estimated Value (as of today's date) : $25-$50

LET'S SUCK VIDEO : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNvm5XFQlng

It's beginning to look like there is no saving the Advanced Dungeons and Dragons games for the NES. Just when I thought it couldn't get much worse with Heroes of the Lance, in comes Hillsfar. At least with Heroes of the Lance, I had some sense of what I was meant to do. With Hillsfar, you're thrown into a giant city and just left to your own devices. Get ready for some epic D&D adventuring!

Sarcasm folks. Sarcasm.
